敲冰煮茗 Chipping ice to brew tea

逸人王休,居太白山下,日與僧道異人往還。每至冬時,取溪冰敲其晶瑩者煮建茗,共賓客飲之。


Wang Xiu, a recluse at the foot of Mount Taibai [1], socialised every day with Buddhist monks, Daoist priests, and other eccentrics. When winter came, [he] took ice from brooks and chipped off crystals to brew Jian tea [2] and drink with his guests.

[1] Mount Taibai is located in the southwest of Shaanxi province.

[2] Jian corresponds to modern Fujian, one of the major tea-producing and tea-drinking regions since the Tang dynasty.
