Down duvets from the Tang dynasty

南道之酋豪,多選鵝之細毛,夾以布帛絮而為被,復縱橫衲之,其溫柔不下於挾纊也。俗云鵞毛柔煖而性冷,偏宜覆嬰兒辟驚癎也。

For men of standing in the southern lands, it is common to have fine goose feathers mixed with cloth or silk floss to fill a duvet and then sew it up with crosshatching. The warmth and softness [of such a duvet] is comparable to that of a cotton-padded robe. People say goose feathers are soft and warm with a cool character [1], most suitable for wrapping babies to prevent seizures.
