和颸玉雨潤瀛洲,
流雪芳春素艷浮。
縞袂低翻攢粉萼,
瑤臺捧出水晶球。[1]
春分二候梨花
[As] the gentle breeze and jade rain bedew Yingzhou,[2]
In the dancing snow of vivid spring, a pure beauty comes into view,
White silky sleeves fluttering quietly around tender calyxes,
Offering up crystal balls on the Chalcedony Terrace.[3]
The second pentad after Spring Equinox: pear blossoms
旖旎霏微團白雪。
素膚皓質結芬芳。
幽葩倚石日滋茂。
粉墨調和蘊靜香。
春分三候木蘭
Graceful and ethereal are the masses of white snow,
With pure skin and delicate texture yielding pleasant fragrance.
Secluded blossoms, leaning against rocks, flourish day by day,
Powder and kohl in tune, infused with a quiet scent.
The third pentad after Spring Equinox: magnolia
[1] Coloured characters rhyme. [2] Yingzhou is a mythical island originating from the Daoist tradition. [3] Yaotai 瑶臺 (Chalcedony Terrace) is a metaphor for the immortals’ residence.
