一顆壓霜枝,One fruit weighs down the frosty twig,

紅鮮味更滋。Red, fresh, with a succulent flavour.

渴喉思快啖,[My] thirsty throat longs for a good bite

還潤我詩脾。To moisten my poetic spleen. [1]

[1] The choice of word, shipi 詩脾 (poetic spleen), does not just serve the purpose of rhyming but also hints at one of the functions of persimmons in traditional Chinese medicine: enhancing the health of the spleen.

Persimmons in my garden... Not quite ready yet, but nearly.
