A Tiller-Recluse” by Zhang Bi (1425-1487)

Writer's picture: RachelleRachelle

Secluded, [he] dwells apart from men,

With a field just over a hectare.

[He] promptly seizes spring’s warmth to plough,

And sleeps soundly as evening’s freshness arrives.

With taxes low, [he] always has plenty of food;

In a peaceful age, [he] finds without effort his ease.

When the young ones return from the woods and pasture,

[He] guides them through a few lines in their books.
